A Case of the Mondays – Ummmm Yeahhh
Monday, January 18th, 2010Bill Lumbergh as played by actor Gary Cole (little known fact, Gary Cole was the voice of Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law) is truly a great characterization of the micro-managing, professional lackwit middle manager. His particular vocal inflections are particularly well done. In the following clip we get about six of them in a row as he leaves them on Peter’s answering machine. Drink in the Lumbergh.
Case of the Mondays – “What Would You Do If You Had a Million Dollars”
Monday, December 21st, 2009On this, the shortest day of the year, it’s a great time to ponder this question. It crops up multiple times in Office Space. A question from a female guidance counselor that’s supposed to help you figure out what you want to do with your life. As Michael Bolton points out
That question is bullshit to begin with. If everyone listened to her, there’d be no janitors, because no one would clean shit up if they had a million dollars.
The following video is one of the strongest parts of the movie and key to the development of the hero, Peter Gibbons’, new take on life. If he had a million dollars, he’d do nothing.
Case of the Mondays – Where the Printer Meets the Baseball Bat
Monday, November 23rd, 2009Never underestimate the value of a good hardware beatdown. When a particular useless printer or router has run its course don’t just throw it in the dumpster, violently take out all the aggression you’ve built up against it with a baseball bat in an open field. Be sure to have some Geto Boys in the iPod as well. Yes, we’re talking about the printer scene from Office Space. First the set-up.
We get introduced to the faulty printer early on as Michael Bolton snaps a piece off of it after a PC Load Letter warning.
Next up is the infamous paper jam with Samir.
And lastly the famous take-down of the infamous printer set to a score of angry gangsta rap. One of the most memorable scenes from Office Space.
Got a Case of the Mondays? Unlimited has the Answer
Monday, November 16th, 2009If you’re not familiar with the phrase, “Looks like someone’s got a case of the Mondays,” you’ve never seen the greatest movie about office life ever produced. It’s called Office Space. Here’s a trailer.
Directed by Mike Judge, the man behind Beavis and Butthead, it’s 10 years old and has aged remarkably well. I watched the movie as a teenager and didn’t really get it. Then I spent a summer photocopying and collating in trousers and a button-up shirt and I immediately and quite painfully understood it.
In a new feature on the Daily Blog we’ll be here to bring the funny to Monday mornings. Here’s a cut-up fan video of Office Space that focuses on some of the more memorable utterances from the movie.
