Pitch Early, Pitch Often

The more practice, the better. Don’t stress about putting your ideas out there before they’re “ready.” According to Bautista, it’s more important to work on it and be ahead of the game than to go into stealth mode.

Lay the Groundwork

Before Bautista even started CIE, he spent a lot of time building up his network.

“When you need to go raise money, all of those connections come into play.”

Know Your Audience

Bautista has 10 different versions of his CIE deck. If he has only five minutes, he grabs his five-minute pitch.

“You have to know who you’re pitching to. “There is no one size fits all presentation,” says Bautista.

Power Networking

Get out there. Go to events in your industry.

“Don’t be shy. Build up contacts at those events,” says Bautista.

Do Your Homework

Bautista went to KidScreen three times before presenting.

“By the time we were there, I had already seen pitches and I had an idea of what would work.”
