Spreading Joy through T-shirts

What kinds of T-shirts do you have in your closet? I have a few favourites, one of them is a picture of an igloo with the caption “The Canadian White House.” We usually wear T-shirts either because we identify with a cause, a brand or an idea and we want to share it. An entrepreneur named Jeff Woodrow has tapped into this idea with his Joy Apparel.

New Directions

Since Unlimited was founded in 2007 with the Balance Issue, the first thing that many people who picked up a copy noticed was how great it looked. (No surprise, then, that our first issue won a National Magazine Award for best art direction.) All the credit for that goes to our art director, Malcolm Brown, who has brought style and sophistication to every part of the magazine. Unlimited would not be what it is without him.

Not quite a year ago I packed up my apartment in Montreal then drank tar-black espresso with my upstairs neighbour, Joseé, while movers attempted to angle their transport truck down my narrow street – only to discover it wouldn’t fit. In the end, a smaller truck was sent to courier all 3,000 pounds of my life in boxes to the big rig.

Lately, the derisive attitude to the word hipster has reached new heights. Its brethren have become not early adopters, but archly snobbish pseudo-asthetes ready to adopt the next What’s-Cool-and-Obscure-Right-Now Thing.
